Feeling like a faker

Baby update

There isn't really anything too exciting to report.  I'm not getting sick nearly as much which is absolutely wonderful!  Last week I only had 2 bad nights.  I am still not gaining weight though.  I'm down 9 pounds from when I started weighing myself 12 weeks ago.  I am currently 17 weeks/3 days.

My last doctor appointment was almost 2 weeks ago.  She did an ultrasound and listened to/measured the heartbeats.  I still couldn't really make much out on the ultrasound.  She didn't print any pictures so I was kind of disappointed.  I like having photos to send to J so he can feel involved and included.  Luckily, I get ultrasounds at all of my visits since it is difficult to measure how well they are both doing with out seeing each of them.  Next time I will ask if she is printing pictures and if not, I will just snap a picture of the screen with my phone. I'm sure she will understand.

I have an appointment in 9 days for the anatomy scan.  I'm excited to find out the genders.  I'm nervous about the appointment because it is with a different doctor.  She is sending me to a maternal fetal medicine doctor for the anatomy scan. And I'm pretty sure she said I will be seeing them every 3 weeks for an ultrasound.  In addition to the ultrasound, they will be checking cervical length, I will meet with the doctor and I will meet with a geneticist.  I'm not sure why I have to meet with a geneticist.  Will they just want a family history?  I have no idea what to expect.

A week after the appointment with the specialist, I have another appointment with the OB.  Luckily, I have been able to arrange to leave work early for all appointments or to trade days with someone so I don't have to miss much work.  I hate having to leave all the time for appointments and it is just going to become more frequent as time goes on.  Everyone keeps telling me that they can't do anything to me for having so many doctor appointments, but I just feel so guilty.

I haven't bought a single thing for the babies yet.  J bought some bottles.  I have had a friend give me one outfit (before we knew there were two) and last week I received a pair of matching outfits in the mail from J's aunt.  It was their first set of matching clothes!  So cute.  And a little overwhelming!

I have picked out the cribs and dresser(s) I like.  But I am waiting until 20 weeks before I order them.  I am hoping that once we know boy/girl, girl/girl, boy/boy I will start getting excited and begin buying things.  My other problem is that I have no idea what I am going to need.  Obviously car seats, stroller, pack & play,  bouncers - but other than that I am clueless.  I think a combination of feeling completely overwhelmed because I do not know what I am doing & the fact that I can't wrap my head around the fact that I am ACTUALLY pregnant is keeping me from moving forward and getting ready for this.

As far as a baby bump, I don't really have one.  I can tell that I am growing, but it looks like I am just super fat.  My pre-existing chubby tummy has just been pushed out a little farther.  So at this point I just look fat.  I am anxious for everything to round out a little so I look different.  My pants are getting pretty tight and I usually end up with them unbuttoned for most of the day.  I have a friend who keeps lecturing me about needing to just break down and wear maternity pants but I can't make myself do it.  I feel like I don't look pregnant and if I am wearing maternity pants then I will just feel like some kind of psycho weirdo trying to pretend she is pregnant.  It's so weird how years of infertility can screw with you and it doesn't go away.

  1. I am totally opposite...i LOVE maternity pants! They are soooo much more comfortable and no one even knows you're wearing them. As for things you'll need, i would be happy to help. I found i went through a LOT of cloth bibs and burp cloths, so you can never have too many of those. I really liked having a boppy pillow...it was great for breastfeeding (not sure if you're going that route), but they come in handy for multiple things. I had a swing, but Ella didn't really like it. She did like her playmat and that was great for playtime. The bouncer was nice when i was cooking, but they grow out of it so quickly. I liked my bottle drying rack. Oh, and are you going to be having the babies sleep in the same bed at first? I've heard a lot of people do this and even if you aren't able to do it forever, i think it really helps twins sleep for the first few months. I hate that time when you just feel fat and not pregnant. I still feel like that and i'm 26 weeks! It's funny how warped our thinking can become and we don't see ourselves how we really are. I'm sure you look adorable and i'm so glad you're not getting sick as much anymore. Please call me if you need any advice on what to get....going into a place like BabiesRUs is SUPER overwhelming. I almost cried when i did my registry the first time because i had no idea where to even begin. Thanks for the update...you seem kinda down, so please don't hesitate to call or text.

  2. Hi. I think, having gone through this entire process myslef (except for the twins part,) that you always are ort of waiting for the oher shoe to drop. (When is the bad news going to come?) At least that is how I felt. My little one is now 20 months old, and still sometimes think....Ok, where is that other show at? LOL.

Babies R Us has a good list put together of things to buy. Aso, I think that I found one in the book "What to expect when you're expecting" as well. One thing I noticed from your post that you put you needed.... pack and play, you may not actually need right away. A pack and play is only handy if you a) don't have acrib at all, or b)plan on traveling alot, or taking the babies places overnight alot. Personally, from my experience, DH and didn't take our little one out, certainly not on trips too much while she as young. We didn't need a pack and play until she was older. (Even then, if you are traveling, the hotel usually has cribs or pack and plays. I just made sure to use my own blankets and made sure to wipe the entire crib/pak and play with a cleanibg wipe first.)A pack and play is a bigger more expensive item on your registry. I would recommend that you spend your money on diapers instead, s yo'll need thoe more.

  3. I really loved the playtex drop in bottle. Loved them. The nippy was awesome too. I loved the swing for Bella. The papasan one. It was by far the best thing I bought. Carseats are important and a stroller is nice. Babies don't need as much as they make you think. I used somethings so little they will be sold before #2. Arrives. It's good to see you post. I love hearing the updates!!!

  4. I recommend a baby carrier- maybe a Moby or Sleepy Wrap, especially with 2 babies! We had a pack'n'play that Wes slept in for a few months and we used the diaper changer on it- he never played in it. BrU will tell you you need about a million and a half items, but you don't.

The things we used most in the early months: car seat, PnP bassinet, Moby wrap, Boppy, swing/bouncer, diapers, sleepers/onesies.

Also, maternity pants are awesome. The ones with the full belly panel make you look more 'round' and pregnant than fat since they kinda smooth things and you don't have a waist band digging into your belly. I speak from experience- ha! Loved my maternity clothes.
