Work and secrets

Here I am again!  :)

Today was my day to work 10-6.  I normally work 7-3 except for Wednesdays.  I don't like my 10-6 days.  They are pretty boring.  Normally, we have an assigned position at work.   There is order validation (reviewing all orders before the meds can be given by the nurses), IVs (doing the same job as order validation, but also checking IVs that are made by the techs, answering phone calls), decentral (go to the floors, review patient charts, make medication changes as needed), the clinic (doing blood work on patients and adjusting the dose of their medication based on the lab results), and 10-6.  The 10-6 person does a hodge podge of things.  A little decentral, order validation and IVs.  You move around throughout the day and stay longer than anyone else.  It slows down from 3-6 so the last three hours drag on and on and on.

This position is staffed Mon-Fri.  The people with the most seniority have been able to give up there 10-6 shift as new people come in.  After 2 & 1/2 years, I finally get to give up mine!  There is 1 person ahead of me seniority-wise who staffs 10-6 and she has decided to keep hers.  She likes having a sleep in day.  So I was next to be asked.  And it didn't take me long at all to say, "YES!  I will give up my 10-6 shift!"  I have 2 more weeks left and then I will officially be done with that shift.  It will be so nice to be done at 3 every single day that I work.  I feel very lucky to have a good job with such great hours.  And now it's even better!

Today I received a package in the mail from Amazon.  I opened it up and there were 2 boxes, each wrapped up like a gift.  There was a note on one that said not to open until Valentine's Day.  The second box said not to open until my birthday (2/15).  They were from my husband.  Now, I do NOT like surprises.  I am the kind of person who will snoop snoop snoop to find out what all my Christmas presents are before Christmas.  So I briefly considered opening them because J would NEVER know, right?  But then I realized that the receipt was also in the box.  So I opened the receipt and right there was a description of each of the items.  Victory!  I haven't unwrapped them yet.  I will wait until the appropriate day.  But at least I don't have to sit and look at them, going crazy with curiosity for the next 4 and 5 days.  :)

  1. Two posts in one day?!?! Now i'm just spoiled :) You are so funny about not liking surprises. Ryan is the same way. He also can't keep any kind of secret from me...i can't get anything out of him. I hope you like your gifts. What a sweet thing for J to do. And yay for giving up that shift! What's your plan for working after the babies get here? If you do go back to work, how much time are you planning to take off? I'm asking questions so you'll answer them and blog more...haha! I have ulterior motives! Just kidding
